My wife invited her friend over, with her husband and kids. Tyrns out the husband plays bass and has a 1980 4001 in Ruby red.

So,first we turn the kids onto a little Rush 2112. Then we go into the music room and I take out my 4001 seagreen project. Can;t believe I ever though about selling it. The set up is perfect, and the sound awesome

That thing does look awesome! I love the dark neck with the dot inlays. Hmm, in fact, it looks like key lime pie with an oreo crust. *homer* Mmmmm, pie... */homer*

That thing is a real one-of-a-kind - sea green, checkered binding, ebony board, horseshoe + HB1 (?). Keep it around for the MARF, at least! Image

Marc- there are a few Blue Boys out there that are starting to look like your Sea Green, I've seen the pictures.(without the check binding)

Mark - that's funny because Pickguardian has an old pic of this bass on there when I had a gold guard. They described the color as blue boy. It looks like genuine sea green in person though.

That bass has seen a lot of change. It's great now. All started with a little trip to Ted's shop...I have a whole disc Ted sent me of pics during it's conformation.

The middle pic shows the fingerboard as it was when Marc bought it. It was flat with no inlays. The original board was partially planed down and the ebony was applied directly to it. The result was a little..... thick. I pulled the frets and drilled it for dot inlays. Afterwards, I applied a period correct 7.25" radius and refretted it. The bass then went off to Mike Dolan for finishing. Later, Marc had further work done on the mechanicals. Along the way FedEx somehow crushed the bass and ruined Marc's signature guard.

Eric: I thought of that bass when I saw those test boards in the factory.

Marc, good call on not selling the SG 4001. You would quite possibly regret that one...

The factory test colour does looks kind of similar to the green RM...
