Two carcasses on eBay

Firstly, an alleged '67 4005: http://cgi.ebay.com/1967-RICKENBACKER-4005-BASS_W0QQitemZ180034796472QQihZ008QQcategoryZ4713QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Based on the pics, is there any way we can be sure that this is a '67, or even a real Rickenbacker?

Then, a partially stripped c64, which would make a great candidate for a Magical Mystery Tour bass, or whatever else you can dream up...

That is way too much for that 4005 body. It can be saved but not at that price.

When it first came up, I almost BIN'ed the c64...but I kept on reading and saw nothing in the control cavity....no pots or switches & such...

Yeah, way too much for wood and a TRC. And the 4005 is without the TRC!

Why do we see so many 4005's that have been treated so badly? They're excellent instruments, as many here can attest to.

That one seems really high for wood, troublesome rods, and a very questionable refin! And no TRC!

Well, i'll let either Paul, Dale, or Ted work their magic on it. Image

I just bought the C64. Wiring and pickups are no biggie and this bass is just screaming for a fun refin by Paul or Dale.

Hey all!
What would any of you do with this C64? Strip it down and Tung Oil it? Maybe a Paul W. "Aquaglo" or "Mink" finish? Maybe Paul's psychedelic MMT finish? Other ideas?
By the way, if anyone has a good closeup pic of the Magical MT finish would they kindly post it or send me a high rez. image? I have never really looked at it closely.
Thanks!
Russ

That 4005 is butchered and can only be refinished in a dark color. Too bad about that awful routing.
Yes, the amount they are asking doesn't justify the cost to repair.
Looks to be a legit '67.
Such a shame.

Looks like it Jerry. Obviously, not original.

$1100.00 was not a bad price for the C64 but buying it to refinish puts the total price with round trip shipping to around $1800.00. That's insane considering the price of one with all of it's parts.
