The Pics threads in the bass and guitar sections are huge, leading me to suspect there are some egos on this forum.

So how about a thread in which we post pics of us with our first guitar, first band, 50 pounds lighter jammimg, anything that shows your musical "roots", or whatever with an "other" brand of guitar or bass.

I figure if you're holding a Rick, it would go in the Bass or Guitar pix threads.

And though I have no ego whatsoever, I'll start.

Me, 1971, aged 17 with my first real guitar, a '64 strat. Waiting for the "grunge" look to happen.

I'll dig up a picture (though I wasn't born 'til 71).

I'm usually the shy, quiet type as well. Here's me in 1970 with my banjo-mandolin, in 1980 with a friend's 4001 and more recently with my '60 335F.

That's me on the right at age 17 with my band Meddy's People in 1966. The 1963 375 FG Rickenbacker that I am holding was my main guitar at the time. I also played a 1964 360/12 FG and my only non Rick was a customized Les Paul Jr. My Vox AC30 was purchased new in England in April of 1964.

The lady in the front playing sitar is Mrs Singh. She was Satwant Singh's mother. Satwant was the percussionist for the Poppy Family. They had a couple of international hits under their belt before Susan and Terry Jacks decided to go their separate ways.

I have pics of me playing my Les Paul Jr. in the 70's but none in the real early days of my career in the music biz.

Oh, and I have difficulty following simple instructions too. Sorry 'bout the Rickenbacker content in the last two photos.

Those are great pictures you guys. I have to start digging for some.

Here's one of me from about 1972. This is with the otherwise forgettable trio 'Age' (named, imaginatively, after our last names: Arthur, Gibbs, and Eastwood). The occasion was our only gig, in the music school at Denstone College (Uttoxter, Staffs, for our British readers) - we did a whole bunch of songs, from Jethro Tull to Lindisfarne and all points in between. Nick (the one in the middle) was the true talent; yours truly, on the left, brandishing the Eko, was a poor second. You'll notice a very rudimentary PA behind us, and an interesting artefact behind my right leg, on which I performed a feedback-encrusted version of "God Save The Queen" to open the show.



Given the timeframe and the location, anyone care to identify said artefact?

Darren, you're absolutely correct. I have no other recollection of it, apart from the fact that it was red. It almost certainly came from Bell's of Surbiton. It didn't belong to me, but was borrowed for the gig from a schoolmate, as was the Eko 12 - my only guitar at the time was a Jedson acoustic, which also appeared the same event.

My first rick, 1973 checker 4001 jetglo, taken in 1979, I was twenty.

Dave, At last I've been able to release that brain cell which has been storing details of Shaftsbury Rick copies for all those years!

It seems like the hours I spent during the 70's and 80's consuming every article from International Musician & Recording World magazine were actually worthwhile!
