Man that is just too cool. The lines look alot like electric uprights you see today. The designers were really forward looking. I wonder what kind of sound it makes? I don’t see any electronics so I guess that was all controlled at the amp??

Cast iron. Great for heavy metal.

Schallers or Grovers? No, Electro machine shop.

Cast iron ???

jeez ... they must weigh a ton. Is this the one that sits on top of the amp or does the endpin extend like a traditional upright ?

I had not seen the wooden rest on the back before either. They were ( are ) amazing looking things.

John, I just love the look. Who designed it? Any pictures of it in use?

WAY ahead of their time!
Of course, what would one expect from the inventors of the electric guitar, & everything else for that matter!

It's listed on Gruhn's site.
1936, VG+, cast aluminum body with lacquer coating (similar to Rickenbacker "frying pan"), horseshoe pickup with two coils, extremely rare model, no case......$5000

http://www.gruhn.com/catalog/b.htm

Jeff, I don't have a high res photo. I captured it from the web site. Scroll down the page, and you will see it.

Thanks for the lead Bob. It is really nice to see some good photos of one of these.

This is the type that sat on the amplifier; the second version, the one built with the aluminum tube, had a circular stand.

I wonder if the 2 coils were wired opposite each other to act as humbuckers?
