Pay Rates?

I'd be interested in knowing what the various bands got paid at the Iron Door (or other clubs too) back in the day.

Like: Was it a flat rate, or a percentage of any door/admission charge? Also, was there any kind of animosity between the bands if, let's say, one band says "We're better than them, so we should get paid more" or anything like that.

Hope this makes sense. Just wondering how that all worked out.

Hi Steve, all the bands who played at the Iron Door received £7 50p,inclding The Beatles.
Audition bands were paid expenses, normaly £4 50p if they passed muster, they would be offered further bookings.
One exception was the Beatles in 1962 when Brian Epstein became their manager the fee for booking the Beatles was £40.The Iron Door's policy was to use local bands it would have been unthinkable to block book bands, although we were in a unique position to threaten a band with no further bookings, if they performed at another club.Certain clubs did practice this closed shop.
