Just out of curiosity, how hard would it be to have checkered binding put on a 4003? I'm thinking of ordering one in AFG and the binding would make it look complete IMO.

The age old question. It is not currently available on any new basses from RIC. Ted has proven that it can be retrofitted, but requiring a refinish.

The old binding would have to be removed and an step of .060" cut beyond the existing route. While this could be done with minimal damage to the finish, Wes is correct in that a partial re-finish would be required afterwards.

It's actually available on the 4004LK, but that's about the same as saying it's not available.
I've had checkered binding put on all my basses, except for my 4000. I usually get basses in unplayable condition and have it done then as part of the process of bringing them back from the dead.

I was questioning the checked binding thing a while back. I kinda like to see it on a 360.
