Someone in Europe needs to jump on this one:

eBay Germany

That #4440 set was stock on the 4001's.

If John Hammel sees these first, you're probably out of luck!

Does John Hammel scan ebay? I'd love to see some of the stuff he has bought or sold.

Well, there's two only Gebotes on it now for 5,50 EUR, does anyone hear speak German? I might just want to Bieten on it.

Versicherter Versand €3,90.-

The Babelfish translation isn't all that bad:
Sorry that only strings to be offered here, are however certainly also as rare as the pertinent bass. Unfortunately only these strings are present from the Rickenbacker stereo 4001 bass There is polished, unused strings in the original cardboard On the cardboard side stands: Set No. S 4440 Rickenbacker stringers Insured dispatch?3,90. - Transfer on account

How different are those strings from TI Jazz Flats?

Ilan, I lucked into 4 sets of medium scale and one long scale set of original Maximas a few months ago, and promptly put sets on my Hofner Cavern, Hofner V62 and my '78 4001JG, and all I can say is, I'm in heaven. Just like I remember them. They're a little shinier and smooth (polished better) than the TIs. Also a little stiffer, but still more supple than any other flat. NO gauges were given on the packaging, nor do I recall there ever being any. Lengths are perfect, no silk on the tuner end, and dark purple silk on the ball end. Anyone that can score these should. They're excellent strings.

I've got three sets of original flatwound Rickenbacker strings for my fretless 3000 still in the packages. They're a bit nicer than the Pyramids and only cost me about $15.00 apiece.

I wish RIC would start making them again. I'd love to try them.

I put in a couple of bids, tops was about 25.00 plus shipping at about 15.00. I think I'll let bycycle or whatever his name is get them.
