5 string project revisited.

I waited too long and my original thread scrolled. Here is how the 5er looks today. I just re-fretted it so I decided to put on all of the hardware to see how she plays. The action is quite low and all notes play cleanly. In any event, she is much better than when I got her. The next step is the new finish.

I am considering scrapping the idea of painting her. How about Mapleglo with BT?

Not a bad idea. How about pearl white with the wings showing through and a vintage style guard? I never have cared for the gap between the guard and the surround.

A transparent Dark Cherry finish like the 75th would look cool on a BT fiver IMHO, in a Gibsonish way.

Mapleglo/BT, always great together.

The wood on this bass is not at all unattractive. The solid colors often (not always) have visually flawed wood. There is a small sap run on the front under the G string between the guard and the treble surround. That is about it for blemishes. I like the way Jeff's looks so I am thinking it will end up Mapleglo. It turns out that I will have to adjust one fret a bit. The B string rattles a lot at the 3rd fret. Otherwise she plays wonderfully and the neck does not creak anymore.

It looks really nice Ted. Maybe just a satin finish on it?

Round it like a 4004 and oil finish it ... and use a chrome toaster cover ... and vintage knobs ... and do the replacement saddle mod ... then you will have one similar to mine ...
The oil finish lets out the mid growl on the 4003s5 ... plus it gives it the c64s vibe ...

Haha, this thread should be titled:
"How to find Jeff Rath"
..no harm meant... Jeff was one of the first members to welcome me to the forum, back in May '05

Incidently, Ilan, that guitar pictured is my favorite electric guitar configuration ever made- my friend just got an SG with P90's and that is the best distorted guitar sound I have ever heard.
Ok, back to Rick programming....
Ted, it would look great natural IMO. The headstock wings....

I like the 'round the edges like a 4004' angle!
As always, nice work, Ted!
