Nice little solo. Great tone too! There's just something about playing a Rick with a pick that appeals to me. Which is why I always play mine with a pick. McCartney and Squire are prime examples.

I have a video of Chris Squire playing HOLD OUT YOUR HAND and he doesn't use use his pinky through out the entire song!

My hands are so small I HAVE to use mine. I couldn't get though even simple stuff without it.

I didn't use it very often, but once I started to use I cannot avoid from playing with it, now I need it, is very useful (there's life beyond for a pinky than scratching the ear)

I use my pinkie alot. I was forced into it when i began tho lol.

As well with the pick playing. I use to think down on it. Until I heard Squire. Still didnt wana learn how to play it tho, just figured ill figure it out with my fingers. Chip made me learn to play with one tho. In the end, I dig it. I play with one all the time now. Im still best with my fingers tho lol.

Years ago, in my active days, I was a three finger player, and used a pick (felt or plastic, song dependant). Couldn't even finger play. Today, when I started relearning, I use the pinkie (all 4 fingers) naturally, and choose pick (Dunlop .40) or finger playing again song dependant. It was easy to move to fingers this time; no idea why; it felt normal. MAybe 35 years of air bass!!

I use both fingers and pick. Not too thick on the pick so it gets a metallic sound (think Billy Idol's version of Mony Mony).

Basically - the pick is for the harder rock songs and the fingers for the expressive general stuff.

Though I have seen people use a pick and sound just like a thumb and pluck player.

Picks can be versatile.

It is a weapon in the arsenal. Just add it in and use it when ready!

I think part of the reason for my not using my pinkie is because my hands are so big. I was an offensive lineman in college so I'm on the rather large side of the spectrum. Plus I play nothing but YES songs and Squire barely ever uses his unless he has to. Bad habits to break I guess. As far as a pick vs. fingers: pick sounds so much more rightous, especially on a rick as we all know. My brother is trying to make me learn finger style but I am resolute(he's a guitar virtuoso, while I just picked up bass after college).
