My 12 can beat up your 12

Since there have been a lot of posts lately inquiring about the differences between models, I thought I'd post a few examples of twelve strings.

This is the same song played on three different twelves: a '99 360/12v64 FG (2 toasters), a '90 370/12SPC JG (3 toasters), and a '04 360/12 TUR (2 hi gains).

I should point out this is in no way affiliated with or endorsed by Rickenbacker International Corporation. Just me goofing around for fun, and to help others make decisions.

Brilliant and informative J dog. That is the first time I have ever listened to a side by side comparison like that before.

For the record, I liked the 370 the best.

Thanks, Jason.... I agree with Dave - the 370 comes out tops.

A solid body in the mix would be interesting.....

Thanks for that, Jdog....

I too, like the 370 sound better...

Excellent comparison J!
I agree, the 370 has that warm, sunny classic sound.
The higains have a little more bite.
I guess it's best to have more than one Rick of any type!
Oh yeah, nice playing too!

Nicely done J. I like the choice of tune as well.

What pickup was used in each? What type of strings do you have on the guitars?

Dang, I thought they all sounded great!

Well done sir!

I have to say I MUCH preferred both toaster-equipped guitars to the 360/12's higains.

BTW, I bet Steve Lasko might be interested in this clip for the Janglebox website. Whilw obviously showing off Ricks, it also shows off his Janglebox quite prominently!

Wow! Thanks for doing that comparison Jason! I've always wondered why RIC doesn't have a vintage-style 370 a la McGuinn in regular production. I'd love to get one like that. (I know, there are probably good production reasons and all, but still... if George's is THE 12 string, McGuinns is the OTHER 12 string!)

Thanks, gang. The v64 and SPC have toasters while the TUR has higains. And most of the 36 strings are the standard RIC set... but I change out singles as needed from basic singles by D'Addario and/or Ernie Ball, of the same gauge.

Biscuti, why don't you do it on a 660/12? They want to hear a solid body.

Jason, which pickups were you using neck, bridge, or all?

Yep, that's what I meant as well.

I was actually trying to figure the piece out for that very reason. You're playing it damn quick. I was able to pick out some of it. Maybe i'll buckle down tonight if i'm bored enough.

Oops! Too many beers. Now I understand. All pickups on for all three guitars. Maybe I should have done the pickups separately, or in Ric-o-sound... hmmm... Stay tuned!!!

Jason, any time on an Alembic 12?

Any opinion on them?

Thanks, Gary
