I remember Marshall Crenshaw playing this guitar back in the 80s and wondered if it was a solid rosewood guitar or what. Anyone have any idea?

It kinda looks like the Walnut finish seen on 70's Tele Deluxe guitars. Maybe it's just that? Fender did a lot of odd ones in the 70's.

Hmmm. All the Walnut finish Fenders I've seen, guitar or bass, didn't have the dark matching headstock like this one though. Just the normal maple headstock. Interesting!

Hi Fran, I had a walnut P bass back in the 80's, I believe it was called an Elite. As I recall it had a walnut headstock.
Do you remember these, and perhaps is this Strat from that era & family?

Marshall used this guitar a lot in the early and mid 80s. I could never tell what it was then.
More than anything, it looks like the solid rosewoods they made just a few of in '69. I know I've seen a photo of one but looked in my Strat book and no luck. I think the one's they made in 69 were in the same batch as the tele they made for George Harrison and the strats had small headstocks despite being mid 60s, but this is from memory. Marshall has sported some choice axes over the years, including several rare strats.
