Ok boys, here is my mission. I want to create a mix cd that would have been the next Beatle album. Using tracks from each of all four's first solo productions. Using the normal historical "Beatle format." One song for Ringo, about two for George and the rest from Paul and John. I would like it to be correct in time periods. For ex. I will use tracks form "McCartney", "Plastic Ono Band", "All things must pass" and "Sentimental Journey" for the 1970-1971 "release." I am even having my friend design a cover. Here is where I need help: tracks, track order (very important) and a name for this album. Ideas are encouraged, I think we can have a lot of fun with this. If this goes well more albums to follow. Ok fellow Beatle-Heads lets GIT-R-DONE!!!

Sorry I'm late. I just read the thread. I think it's a cool idea. For sure you should include tracks that were being rehearsed , but never released by the Beatles. McCartney's Teddy Boy and Harrison's All Things Must Pass come to mind.

I have an old Rolling Stone article that said the Beatles next album, if they hadn't broken up, was going to be titled "HOT AS SUN". I will go find the article and see if it lists any tracks.

I'm thinking for Paul's contribution.....

Funny you mention "Hot as Sun" check out the title of track five on "McCartney"

Five John, five Paul, three George, one Ringo. I think that's how it would have shaken down. I think the John and George would have quashed "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey" and John and Paul would have recognized how borrowed "My Sweet Lord" was. I think John might have actually related to "Eat at Home."

Totally fantasy, of course.

I personally doubt they would have recorded 'Teddy Boy' since the rest of them seemed to detest it. If they had been able to make it through 69/70 intact, I think they would have developed better communication skills between them, and wouldn't have allowed another 'Ob-la-di Ob-la-da' or 'Maxwell's Silver Hammer' kind of situation.

But again, it's all fantasy.

The article is in the September 17, 1970 issue of Rolling Stone. It is a very strange read. It talks briefly about the album and then it turns into a crazy story about tapes being stolen, ransom, money transfers, flights to Algeria and erased tapes. I don't have the entire magazine just the pages the article is on.

Anyway, it lists the following tracks that would have been included.

Maxwell's Silver Hammer (Abbey Road)
Don't Let Me Down (b side of Get Back)
Dirty Old Man
Proud As You Are
Zero is Just Another Even Number

Apparently, this article states, that this album was being recorded before Abbey Road, then shelved. Then revisited, then it was gone.

I assume 'Dirty Old Man' is aka 'Mean Mr. Mustard.' Any idea what 'Proud As You Are' and "Zero...' were?

Maybe the article is confusing the early Abbey Road sessions with the Get Back album rumors?

The article does mention that the first recordings occur between the White Album and Abbey Road. Mean Mr. Mustard makes sense Ethan. Good call.

I think any release would have happened in 1970.

Are we calling it Hot as Sun?

I like "Apple Scruffs". It fits in with the Abbey Road theme.

Brian --- I remember distinctly that 1970 Rolling Stone article about the mythical Hot as Sun LP and the story about the tapes being erased. It even had a hypothetical picture of what the album cover was going to look like. I had saved that issue at one point in time - but I have no idea which god forsaken box in my garage or attic it might be now, some 30 years later, or if someone didn't toss it during a cleaning binge !! To help solve the mystery of identifying "Zero is Just another Even Number" and "Proud as You Are" I am wondering if any Forumite or other Beatles fan has that fabulous Bootleg collection "30 Days" which is/was a 17 Disc (CDs) collection and contains every single moment of the Twickenham Sessions Nagra camera soundtracks pressed to disc. If someone has those hard-to-find bootleg boxset they might be able to possibly track-down lyrics or phrases in those hundreds of Get Back rehearsals, that might possibly lead to a conclusion about those mystery Hot as Sun tunes being cross referenced to a song under a different name. (If that makes any sense.) I tried to include a picture of the complete listing of that 30 Days Bootleg Box Set here with my message - but unfortunately it was too many bytes and I'm not tech savy enough to know how to shrink the pic down. That 30 Days stuff was something I saw on a bootleg website years ago.
