Metallica Bass in Fortune Mag

I'm not a bass player, but there's a great pic of the bass player for Metallica in the current special issue of Fortune Magazine posing with his Jetglo Rickenbacker. There are two pics of him. One with a Rick, the other with some other bass.

In the October 30th "Excellence" special edition of Fortune, it's Robert Trujillo. The pic is on page 112. Sorry for not mentioning the details first!

Yes -- a Jetglo. It actually looks a bit weird, with something maybe attached to the top of the bridge or above the pickups. It's a really nice photo, but I think you'll have to buy the Excellence Issue to see it.

Wow I never would have figured Trujillo to be the kind of guy that would play a rick...it would be cool if he actually used it live or on a recording.

Scan it please and post it here, 'cause I can't buy it overhere. Robert with a Ric. I find him more a sort of Ibanez guy or Warwick.....

Slightly off topic, but what stuff did Cliff play on? I figured Id give it a listening to. Never thought much of Metallica but heard some stuff about Cliff. Guess I should make my own judgement lol.

cliff played on the first three albums...Kill 'Em All, Ride The Lightning and Master Of Puppets. I recommend listening to Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth), Orion and maybe Call of Kthulu if you want to get a good idea of what Cliff Burton can do. Most of the time he just follows the guitars (which isn't always easy) but every once and awhile he busts out with some cool licks. Personally I thought he was a great and after he died it was all down hill for the rest of Metallica.

I couldnt agree more !! Cliff was Metallica !! He's probably my main influence & THE reason I play a RIC. I have a line on a BG 4001 which I'll try to grab soon... Beautifull color but also because Cliff played a BG...
Cliff is most remembered for his ``lead bass`` style which was unheard of back then ( 83-86 ). It was not agreed by all the band members but they let him do his thing...He also brought the ``melodies`` into the songs. For example the soft line backing the solo in Master of Puppets. Or the classic Orion...The intro on ``For whom the bell tolls`` is also to be mentionned...There is a video on youtube.com showing Cliff live doing this intro ( on the Aria Pro II )and he just gets wild !! God !! I cant remember the exact title but search with the song name live w/ Cliff & you'll get it...
After Cliff came Jason ( a good player ) but in a more classical style of ``backing the guitars`` and gone were the melodies...
My band plays some Metallica songs, first 3 albums...

I meant no offence to Chris Squire!!
I'm talking about heavy metal music...as I consider Yes to be more a progressive rock band than a heavy metal band like Metallica, Iron Maiden and the others from this period...
