Hey Mark,
I've NEVER seen ANYTHING like that before...and you had one stolen?
Dirty SOB's.
Thanks for the link, OUCH... check out the price!
How did you keep that thing intonated? It looks like it might have been a bear.

When it comes to an 8-string I have always wanted a Manson (UK maker). This is the exact replica made for John Paul Jones. What a range and an undervalued bass:

The bass at the top of the thread has a Kramer neck. The similarity to a Travis Bean neck is not a coincidence. Travis worked for Kramer in the early days. I always found both necks to be cold and unnatural feeling. Dave Hope from Kansas played an aluminum-neck Kramer on Leftoverature and Point Of Know Return.

That's a Kramer Voyager, if I'm not mistaken...and yes, those necks are COLD.

Really, that body is genuine Kramer? Wow, I remember them having very simple bodies back then. That one is cool and must be pretty rare. Kramer only made those metal necks for s few years.

I just tried a Kramer aluminium neck last weekend and it was well made but felt weird. Cold, as has been said, also. Nice profile on it, but the combination of aluminium and wood was odd - probably would get used to it in time.

I'm sorry, that is not a Voyager, the Voyager is like the old "Star" guitar shape, that is the XL-8. Here's a good page about the history of the aluminum-neck bass era.

I used to play a Travis Bean bass. Talk about cold necks. Sounded great though.
