I had learned The Fish solo from Yessongs back in the mid '70s. Chris certainly had some interesting things with it since then! Image

So much comes to mind here! I've seen that solo 15 times live between '74 and '00, and was reminded how some elements stayed but how much has changed. Amazing how we've watched that bass age over the years, and to my ears, mellow just a bit, or mature if you will, into something a little warmer and bassy. Another interesting thing was, if my memory serves, in spite of the tours he used the natural finish Jazz Bass, and the Thunderbird, Mouradian, et al, every show I've seen ONLY highlighted the Rick for the solo. That's saying something! And lastly, it never really dawned on me until now, but how about poor Steve picking those harmonics for 10 straight minutes. Yikes! Yes, Chris really is a great showman too. Thanks for this subject Scott n' Jeff!
