I am still having wrist problems so I've decided to buy a good short scale bass . I am keeping my Rathed 4004 Cii for 5 string work but I am selling my 77 4001 to pay for the new short scale bass . I know this is a RICKENBACKER forum but any suggestions on any brands would help . The Bass must be flatwound friendly and intonate perfectly . Im looking at the Gretsch Broadcaster 30" , Fender Mustang , Fender stu Hamm Urge , RIC 3000 3001 ? ????

Try a Danelectro Longhorn or a Univox copy of the Mosrite Ventures bass.

i had a 3000 for a short while (no pun intended), i'd recommend it over the only other short-scale on your list i have played, a mustang.

Hofner and the Gibson EBO are short scale ... a hofner is very light and easy to play ...

Your wrist problems may be due to a nutritional deficiency ... try seed extracts, B6, manganese, and choline.

By the by, the 3001 is the same scale as the 4000 series.

A great local shop has a 1962 Danelectro bass for a pretty low price. It's short scale with that copper color finish. Let me know if you're interested.

Gibson has a re-issue EB-3 bass that is short scale. If they are as nice as some of the older ones I've played on, it might be a good choice. Only problem with that is Gibsons are greatly overpriced IMHO. But on their guitars more than basses though.

OK,,,not a real high quality item here, but my neighbor kid just bought one of these things. I set it up for him, and had a ball with it. I didnt want to put it down.

How about short-scale Guild basses (ca. early 70s)? Try any of the Starfire, JS, or M-85 series basses. Huge, large, big, and broad tone with a coil-tap switch. The necks on those are the nicest bass necks I've ever played. Plus you have the option of retrofitting with re-issue Hagstroem pickups from Fred Hammon

With the exception of the M-85 II, which has had a resurgence in popularity due mainly to Brian Ray's live use of it, those Guilds can be had pretty reasonably.

Hofner Club basses are really cool too.

Hey Scott . I actually have one of those Jay Tursers as my..... play on lap watch TV bass....It is fun but intonation with flatwounds is just kinda close.....My wife singer /songwriter is a bass junky and can hear if things are not perfectly in pitch . Thanks Image

A Guild M-85 would be killer but finding one at a decent price....!!
Im also looking at the very well made Hagstrom Sweedes and Kents . Sold the Hofner ( wife hated it ) Found a Guild JS but am now very tempted by fellow forum member Danes 5 string FG 3000 . ???

Aren't those Kubicki Ex Factor basses medium scale? 32" right?
