Nowhere near as odd as the CS ones, with their droopy sock headstocks.
I'd wonder about long-term strength of the holey headstock on these; otherwise it's a cool solution. A lot depends on the hardness of the individual piece of maple and how cleanly the holes for the extra tuners are made.

Looks like the guy did a decent job.
I wonder why the bridge saddles are up side down though.

I know I often link to books on Amazon and I apologize.
But there is a cool "coffee table" book called "Electric Guitars: The Illustrated Encyclopedia" and it has descriptions and several photos of Fender's historical attempts at building 12-string guitars:
http://www.amazon.com/Electric-Guitars-Encyclopedia-Tony-Bacon/dp/1592230539/sr=11-1/qid=1163000277/ref=sr_11_1/104-2613528-0431963
[I'm sure the Fender-only histories go into this as well but this book is a nice brief history of almost every make and model of electric guitar with LOTS of great photos.]

Looks cool to me. I can only guess he flipped the saddles so he could cut new grooves.

Is there a reason he couldn't put the new tuners with the keys facing back like Ricks are? This seem like an pretty awkward way to tune the guitar.

I was wondering about the strength of the headstock myself, Paul.... and I agree with you on the CS ones - they really look wierd!

What? No adjustable 12-Saddle bridge?
