I just finished replacing the carpet in my office/home studio (aka music room) with hardwood flooring. I didn't realize at the time of just how different my guitars would sound in the room once the carpet was taken out. The guitars are much more alive.

BTW, the flooring is cherrywood, not maple or rosewood.

I bought a 2' x 4' piece of birch for the sole purpose of placing on the floor to brighten up the room a little bit.

Good studio have a mix of both 'hard' and 'soft' surfaces to bring out the best of all instruments.

I bought my Takamine TAN16C acoustic six from a local dealer that has a quiet, test-play room maybe 12'x12'. It's where they keep the expensive acoustics and the walls and floor are all wood. It sounded absolutely glorious in that room, and not from echo, it was just a very rich resonance. Once home, it was still a very nice guitar, but nowhere near as rich as it was in the room. If I had the space, I'd build a small wood-paneled, wood-floored room just to play acoustics in. It's like magic.
