While listening to Wings' last release today, a question arose. We all kow about the 4003FL used on a couple of track on BTTE. But as for most of the other tracks, I am curious what you guys this PMC's main bass was. The 4001S or the Yamaha. In some BTTE videos he appears with his Yamaha. However track 1 (Reception) sounds funky-Ric to me. He also appeared in the "Getting Closer" video with his 4001S.

P.S. Do your guys think Paul used flat-wounds on his Yamaha?? That intro to "Give my regards to Broadstreet" seems pure punchy round-wound.

I think both basses are on the record. Although I'd need to really sit and listen to figure which is which! Regarding the round sound on Give My Regards, a good amount of bass on the LP, along with the snippets may actually be Louis Johnson on bass. Think I saw that in the credits or read it somewhere.

I vaguely remember a full-length television special with Paul and George Martin. I remember a scene where Paul and Sir George are jamming. Paul on his Yamaha and George Martin on piano. The both kept playing that intro line. Maybe I'm crazy

Paul's fretless was a 4001FL not a 4003FL.

I think Paul always used rounds on his Yamaha. It always seemed to get a grinding roundwound sound.

Richard, I think the documentary you are thinking of with Paul and George was "The Making of Broad Srteet". I remember the part you are speaking about. George was at the piano and Paul was playing the opening riff of No More Lonely Nights with the echo on it. He was playing his Yamaha. I thought the two tracks with his Rick were the best on the album. "Not Such a Bad Boy" and "No Values". No Values had a very cool jam at the end that was edited on the album.

Their is a lot of stuff I liked on Back to the Egg. Side 2 sort of faded off for me until I read a post from Fran saying that a few of the tracks were played on a 4001 FL. I had renewed interest in those tracks and the bass was awesome.
