It's got to be BS, hasn't it...?
100% true story.
In 1975 in Bristol UK I bought a 6 string Gibson guitar/banjo (The Gibson Guitar & Banjo Co) label inside for 100 UKP. The banjo was in the Arcade in Bristol and they sold a few musical instruments and some other more junky stuff. This was quite a lot of money in 1975 but the guy would not move on his price.
I paid the 100 on Thursday and took it to London on Saturday. I shlepped around the shops in Shaftesbury Avenue, got a lot of interest but no takers. I ended up at Orange. The guy there looked very impressed by it and phoned a chap called Claude, he turned out to be Steve Howe's personal tec and within an hour both Claude and Steve Howe, and me, were in Orange doing a deal. I walked away without the Banjo but with 450 UKP in my pocket. At the time a new 4001 was about 300 UKP.
From time to time I see one of those photos of Steve Howe with gazillions of guitars around him, but have never spotted this banjo?

these things happen quite often. I've personally witnessed the "old classic car in the shed" story occur--right around the corner from me, my wife and I spotted a '66ish Tbird with weeds growing through it under a lean-to. Last thing I needed was another money draining hobby, but sure enough, about a month later I saw the car in a resto bodyshop lot--someone found their jewel.
Hope this one works out for all concerned....

Sounds like it's a Gretsch of some kind--single cutaway. Still sounds like a pretty darn good $100 spent...

Sounds like BS the has gold knobs...read Les Paul..sounds a bit manufactured. Things do happen though, As Paul W will attest to, I recently found a mint '64 blonde Bandmaster piggyback with covers and a road case for $300! It's good to be alive...

That could be true ... but it sounds like a classic urban legend story ...
I usually see the opposite ... somebody has an 80s strat and tries to pass it off as a 60s or 70s instrument ...
