Hey guys, I was at the beer store last week, and the sales clerk said he recognized me from a local paper photo (me with my fg 4003), he said he had the same bass, I talked bass with him a bit, he asked me to drop by and check it out....he lives at the bottom of my street and has a gorgeous fg 4001 1976, I promised to do a set up on it soon...kinda weird, the only two ricks in Kenora and we both live on the same street.

Stranger things have happened...I wonder what treasures are locked away in attics and closets around here.

that's a cool story ... kinda like how Steve Cooper and I ended up working for the same firm ... both of us architects and both of us bass players who like Ric basses ...

Kenora is not exactly a booming metropolis. From the Google maps view of it I gather it is a small north woods town surrounded by glacial lakes. The fishing is probably pretty good around there though!

Well I do not believe the lakes are glacial...but yes, lake of the woods is probably one of the best fisheries in the world....and we have a big fiberglass fish in town ( and two rick basses)

The lakes are not technically "glacial" as in the case of a "kettle lake", but retreating glaciers sure did a number on the landscape!
I once spent a week at the lodge up on Sand Lake north of Kenora. Amazing fishing and beautiful scenery! Didn't see any Ricks though...
And John, that may be the biggest fibreglass fish ANYWHERE.

I find most places in northern Ontario are quite scenic, But then again I find most places with a liquor license....or a bandstand, quite scenic as well. However I will make a point of getting a picture of a rick bass AND huskie the muskie together this weekend.

It thought most of the carving up of the terrain in that area was glacial till. By glacial lakes I don't mean glacialy fed but glacialy dug.

Geography trivia(?): A section of nearby Lake of the Woods is the most northerly point in the "lower 48" states of the U.S. That little crick in the border interrupts the rather straight line along the 48th parallel.

OK John, here's an even weirder coincedence: a Rickenbacker bass forum, with members from all over world, has a guy who lives in the tiny city of Kenora and another guy who was born there! My parents grew up in Keewatin and I was born at the hospital just up the shoreline from Husky. I moved to Winnipeg at a young age but we had a small island (sold in the 80's) not too far from the big bridge on the Trans-Canada. Spent a lot of my youth at Coney Island.
