I think I need some new eyeglasses, but the description of this guitar doesn't seem quite right. It is advertised as 100% near mint! To see it, go to
http://www.chicagomusicexchange.com/
Click on Rickenbacker Guitars, then the camera icon to the right of the description of a 1958 335 Capri. Sure doesn't look mint to me...

Gene: Hard to tell with these photos. I have always felt that if you really want to sell as instrument that good quality photos can't hurt. I don't think this site, with a number of very nice instruments, has done itself any favours by posting photos that are not clear.

I've seen that guitar in CME...it is in okay shape, but the face of it has faded into a honey brown. The back is still a decent Fireglo.

So it really is just faded?!?!? Looks to me like it has been sanded down and refinned in Mapleglo or something. It must've spent a lot of time on the beach or something, where direct sunlight just bleached it out....

Here is a closer look. I do not believe that this is due to fading.

I'm telling you, I have seen this guitar in person, and the finish on the top is not stripped.
Surely there is someone from this group who lives in Chicago who can waltz down to CME and check this out...

Kenny: I read your comment with interest and appreciate your first hand observation. I am not convinced, however, that all of the red could be bleached out on the top. Perhaps this was refinished this way from the outset.
