I don't know. It looks pretty skuffed up, with lots of dings, plus no certificate.
The finish looks strange unless the color from the pics is off. It looks more gold than the light yellow CS's.

and if I read the s/n correctly, December 1990 puts this at one of the earliest models to leave the factory, probably with an authentic magnetized horseshoe. If the buyer actually receives the bass in the photos, with a little TLC he's probably getting one super bass... sigh!
But that is a mighty bif IF, IMO.

Hey. It's a 4001CS. Those basses rock in a no prisoners kinda way. A little pricey, but at least you don't have to worry about having sub-standard tone at your gigs.

it is nice to see that some of these 4001cs basses actually get played ...

Hell yeah! I gig with mine regularly. It's usually my main axe at gigs. I play in a cover band with a wide range of material and it'll do the Chili Peppers as well as Jimmy Buffet. Last gig the other night was 4 sets and my Jazz bass sat next to my amp the whole night.

That is a real early one. They usually appear a little darker it seems. I'd really try and find the certificate if I was the new owner. Failing that, ask RIC what number it was.
That looks more like RI HS to me.

I don't think so, I don't see any magnet rods, just a dark black circle.

I was thinking more about the magnetic horseshoe issue than the bobbin John.
I was just looking at the pickguard screws. It appears nearly every single one, including the toggle switch surround, has been screwed in too tight, leaving those cracks around the holes. Either that, or, that was one very delicate pickguard.

Did I miss something here? Why would a CS have magnetic shoes?

Mine is almost that dark too. VERY yellow. Mine's a gigger and has seen plenty of smoky bars too. Mine's definitely got a non-magnetic reissue horsey too. That one must be real early I'm thinking. Mine is #207 in the run, with a mfg. date of August 21, 1991.

What? Early Squires had a magnetic shoes?
Hmmmmmmm.....I got #30, thanks Marc. For us dim bulbs, how does one ID a magnetic shoe?
I'm with you Jacob, fooled again!

No, I don't think the 4001CS ever came with old style shoes. Here on the forum, we have one V63 (Andy's) that appears to have a very vintage style treble pickup. I believe Andy is the original owner and he says the pickup has always been there. Others have said they had similar pickups but no photographic evidence has been provided.
