Hey Guys, For the last 25+ years, My Holy Grail was getting Geddy's AFTK's sound. Well, today, I got it!

I was messing with the settings on my Hartke amp, tweeking the shape setting, turning the mid and bass knobs and such.
Then i started on the bass, I raised the bridge pick up to about 1/8th an inch from the strings, turned down the Neck pick up volume to about maybe 1/4 and changed my strings.
For the past 25+ years i have been using GHS Boomers and or Rotos, but this time i used basic Fender round wounds and low and behold.....Geddy's sound...I'm in heaven right now, i'm also afraid to tuch my amp for fear i will mess it up.........I'm going to dump GHS and buy Fender strings from now on..

Strings are a strange animal. I swear by D'Addario nickle XL 170's on my 4003's, but my 4004 CII really, really likes DR Highbeams.

I heard Geddy used some 30-90 strings on one of his basses. Something like that. Not sure which or anything like that. Stanley Clarke too. Not sure who else. Iv played on a Wal with 30-90strings. Pretty kool. I heard their hard or impossible to find any more tho. Anyohwho I thought it was kinda kool. Probly not much to do with the subject matter.

I use boomers on my Aerodyne and I have a set on my ric right now. Sounds pretty decent. Iv never been to picky about getting anyone elses sound tho.

CONGRATS tho.

Strings get married to your bass. Once you find the right ones for the right bass there just no changing it. Chip told me that. I must agree with him.
