There's an interesting Rick bass on ebay. Seller describes it as "tobacco sunburst" and it looks like the color scheme used on the 4002. Anybody know what year this may have been (Color of the Year)?

Looks like it is "Walnut", a standard color for a few years, although my walnut 360 didn't look so...extreme.

I think there were a few years where Rickenbacker offered basses in that finish to Canada, and it seems like I have seen several of them like that that came from Canada. Color is either Walnut or Autumnglo. I believe they offered this color in the US for a short while, too, but this one looks the most like "Montezuma Brown" of any I've seen...

Scott, maybe it's the black trim that looks odd. I have a c. 1974 with white trim:

One other thing to take into consideration is that digital cameras may not respond to all colors equally; the picture above shows a hint of red towards the darker areas, but when viwed in person, it's brown, not red, in those areas. I know that my camera (an Olympus D-400Z) does not render reds well (in most cases, it under-emphasizes them!).

I also think that I remember reading an earlier thread which contained the expanation that Autumnglo is a satin finish whereas Walnut is a gloss finish.
