Rick bass production timelines

As many of you know, I'm writing a book on Rickenbacker basses and since the Packers sucked once again today, I'm spending this day more productively sketching a rough timeline of Rick basses that will eventually be formalized and appear in the book. The timelines are also sort of a family tree: "the 4000 begot the 4001 which begot the 4003" etc. I've been through the Smith book, the Bacon/Day book, John Minutaglio's "Rickenbacker Prices - Collectible First Half 2006," and the "Bass Models" on the RickResource page. None of these sources is complete, so I want to ask some questions of you experts (oh yes, you are!). Please don't recheck the above references, I really need confirmation to verify conflicting sources. You can help by checking your own personal collections or records. So here goes:

• Was the 4001S produced past 1981?
• Was the 4003S produced as early as 1980?
• Was the 4003S produced later than 1995?
• What were the 4004LK (Lemmy) production years? I'm pretty sure they just completed the run in 2006, but not sure when it commenced.
• When did the Cheyenne II start? 1999? 2000?
• When did the Cheyenne II/5 start?
• What year did the 4001CS (Chris Squire) end?
• What year did the 4003S/5 end?
• What year did the 4003S/8 end?
• What was the year when the V63 ended and C64 started? 2001? Later?
• Was the 4005 produced past 1981?
• Was the 4080 produced past 1990? Did it end earlier?
• There were only a handful of 4005LS (Light Show) made. If anyone has inspected one, do you recall if it had sharp edges to the front of the body (like a 330 guitar or a bound front) or were the front edges rounded?

Post the answers right here, if you will.

Thanks, guys and gals!

• What year did the 4003S/5 end?
• What year did the 4003S/8 end?

I think these both ended in 2001

• When did the Cheyenne II/5 start?

I think it was introduced at the 2002 Winter NAMM
Both of my Cii5's are from 2004. I think the ones that Paul Alvarez and Erik Kutler have are also from 2004.

Paul,

You're a better man than I am. My Niner's sucked as well. But you find useful things to do. I mean research for a book. How cool is that?

Me? I'm icing my hand and then repairing the wall it went through.

Nice work!

Now now, punching the wall is no answer for a ****** football team! Image

I should know, I'm a Bucs fan!

Forumite Edgar Aldrett sold an '82 4005 on the forum back in the summer. It's the latest i've seen.

I've seen CS' as late as '99.

Here's a pic of the edge of the 4005LS: http://www.rickbeat.com/modelslibrary/4005ls/4005lsjack.jpg

John B., that's definitely a 4005? If so, then it has the sharp unbound edge (like a 330). Thanks.

Brian, that will not help your bass playing! Image
