has Grovers and a silk screened truss rod cover with just "Made in USA" on it no model number, pictures aren't very clear and no serial #'s but is supposed to be Jan. 1974, looks it. High gain pickup. It is hard to tell how the paint is the photos are so bad.

That bass looks great, 4000's are always a bit of a curiousity i think.

Yeah, I'd love to get an old 4000 with a horseshoe, ever since I found out that an old song called "Liar Liar" was played with a 4000. It's by I think "The Castaways" if you ever want to check it out, Dave Westheimer knows for sure. Unbelievable sound, I can still hear it in my mind from 37 (?) years ago (the oldies stations playing it helps also)

Its funny, but those really early 4000's look "complete", but the later ones like that one on ebay look strange, they are like a 4001 with all the bits missing. I saw one identical to that one here in London. Im not sure i like those 4000's they look very plain. With that big white pickguard with next to nothing on it.

Yeah, I think it's the pickguard too, I like the old ones a lot better. Theres a 1960 MG 4000B (?) for $4000.00 a Gbase.com that I'm drooling over but I'm broke right now.

Those old old ones are real nice looking, its fun to see a 4000 series bass that looks really different.

Which reminds me, you know how people complain about the pain in the arse bridge? and some think modernising it would ruin everything (?), well originally the 4000's didnt even have that bridge did they!

Do you know him Dave? Are they still together? I couldn't access their homepage. Yeah, Owen the real old ones had those bridges that you could engage the mute or not, I think anyway. I want one of those.

Bob, I'm getting off topic here, but are you familiar with the old Nuggets collection? It was originally released in the early 70s but redone on CD by Rhino a few years ago. Bob, I'll have to ask a friend since I no longer live in Minnesota, but I think they still do get together and play an event once or twice a year. For a while, maybe back in the early 90s, there was some sort of rift, Dick led one group and Jim Donna (keyboards) led another version. I don't know him personally.

I got to get that CD, I have had friends who had the LP way back, I love that old stuff. Damn kids nowadays wouldn't know good music if it bit them on the A@@ LOL. Frank Sinatra, now HE could sing, THAT was music. OK Dad, yup, I know it, see ya. 1965 in my family living room, Ed Sullivan Show, my father: "Whos that? The Rolling What??!! Well they stink!". Of course they got much better in my eyes at that moment.

I don't have any pictures to put up right now, but if you go to //www.radiosurfers.net and look under "past venues", there are some pics of me playing my 4000 (April '68). I had to put a vintage horseshoe on it because the original was long gone before I acquired it. I still need to have a pick guard made for it, just need to send the original to Don so he can make me one from it.

What is wrong with the original Randy? Nice bass by the way, how does it sound?
