When you look at some of the threads there are a lot of creative, and clever people here who can do amazing things with a 4003.Dale and Paul and Ted can turn a 4003 into a vintage 4001.And Jeff turns the 4003 into a 4003/5.Would it be possible to turn a 4003 into a 4001V63.

star with a 4003s and you are most of the way there ... the hard part would be the walnut headwings and trying to find a horseshoe pickup ...

Dane Wilder has done it! He had the body sanded, had it finished in Squire-glo, and had the fretboard replaced with a 21-fret fingerboard.
Oh, and it has 8 strings.

This weekend after installing a Hipshot replacement bridge on my 4003 (with no effect!), I just swapped the electronics from my white '78 4001 with my '97 FG 4003. That was the best thing I could ever do for the sound! The 4001 had too much bite (even with the Cap removed) and the 4003 too little! Now both basses won! The 4001 has more pound and the 4003 is very aggressive. Jeff Rath gave me the clue, when I read about the different pots used in the different series and production years. Thank you!!!
