I saw one at the RIC museum, i didn't think there were any floating around out there!
The prototype 50th annniversary guitar had this nameplate and gold tuners.

It is legit. Only a few were made AFAIK.

"Very Old" -- uh, well, 1981 anyway.

John, do you know if any guitars were actually shipped from the factory with these TRCs and the gold tuners?

Was that 50 years from the start (Beauchamp era) or 50 years since the F.C. Hall era?

They must really be scarce then. I have seen exactly two and they were both in the last year. That is why I was wondering if they were made in '81 or 2001.

The seller has had several other unusual TRCs up for auction recently. I wonder where they are all coming from.
Are there any "TRC collectors" out there?

Much of it is new old stock from a now defunct music store, as well as some basic wheeling & dealing. I know the folks personally and they're on the up and up.
They've also had some nice Fender and Martin bits as well.
