Here's a hatchet job on a poor, innocent 4000...

The BIN price seems reasonable enough to maybe consider a restoration... the key word being "maybe".

I saw that too, if I had a few extra bucks I'd grab it and restore it with a horseshoe pickup, and have someone make a new pickguard for it, I already begged the wife to let me borrow the money, some woman have Hearts of Stone (and no money), haha.
And that certainly is a hatchet job, wicked one. You know if people have to butcher Rics, can't they at least try to make them look ok?

Truly scary. I hope someone rescues that 4000.

Too Late. Gone to BIN @ 9:15 EST on 7-25. I would have given it some serious thought at $300.00, which appears to have been the BIN price.

What is with the white where a neck PU wire channel would be, and the extra hole in the headstock? At $300 it could be a fixer upper, but it would be expensive to restore.

There's an example of your metal bridge pickup cover, in a couple of the pics...

It's not gone to BIN, $300 was the starting bid and Kenny has placed a bid. Still available.

What did they do, change the procedure? I thought that BIN was in effect until the reserve was hit, unless there was no reserve.

There was no reserve and I got outbid. Ah well.
It's ok, I would rather have a neck-through Ric bass. Seriously, no sour grapes here.
I would have left it as a 4000 too, a) just to be different and b) there's a nice 4000FG in the '68 catalog, and I always wanted one like that.

Here's a recent ad I ran across:
Rickenbacker 650D Elec Guitar. Custom built, Gibson premium pickups & electronics, Planet waves locking tuners, Schaller roller bridge, custom refinished w/ hard case, showroom cond, $1000 invested, will sell for. $550
Another entry into the "what were they thnking?" category!?!

Oops, my mistake, the BIN is gone because a bid has been placed. Strange, I thought BIN stays in place until it is sold. Now I have some thinking to do....

me too, that's what I meant, maybe because there was no reserve the first bid negates the BIN, which was $500.00

Yes, BIN goes when either the reserve is met, or a bid is placed on a non reserve auction.

That's a nice bass, I have a spare bridge pickup assembly from an early '80's 4003...somewhere. I may even have a spare name plate. I could get her back in shape fairly quickly...makes me think too....

Don't think, act!
I'm willing to contribute a (black) pickup surround therefor. All you gotta do is have someone chrome plate it. Well?
