Like many a Ric player, I was greatly influenced by the music of the Byrds in general, and Roger (Jim) McGuinn in particular. On my first date with my wife of now 30 years, she saw my guitar in the corner, and asked me to play it for her. Like a dummy, I asked her what song would you like to hear? (At that time I only had a couple dozen memorized.) She said, I probably wouldn't know it, but she really loved "Feel A Whole Lot Better" by the Byrds. That was probably my favorite song to play at that time, and the one I knew best. With my best poker face, I said I think I know that one, and proceeded to dazzle her with my impromptu brilliance, which eventually led to our marriage made in heaven. I later confessed all to her, and years later (1989), with her blessing, purchased my first Rickenbacker, my 370/12 RM.
I just saw in our local paper that Roger McGuinn is going to be here in concert at the Fairfield Community Center on Feb. 3. Guess who is going to be first in line for tickets today? No, not me, but my wife who works right down the street in Fairfield. What a great early 30th anniversary surprise! I can't wait.

That's great news Jim! Have you ever seen him live? I did last year; he has the best one man show on the planet. Well, maybe I'm a little bias.

Oh BTW, Take something for him to sign. You'll prob see Camilla at the front selling CD's. Ask her about it.

J.C., I haven't had a chance to see him live. I am hoping he will sign the certificate for my 370/12 RM. I am definitely "8 miles high" about seeing him. My wife just bought the tickets and we are in the 4th row center, and the community center theatre is pretty small.

How big is the Community Center Jim? He likes to play in small venues now. I saw him in an old Civil War area Opera House. It was very small; seemed like he was playing for just friends. Maybe it will be the same for you.

I am just guessing, but I would say no more than 300 seats. Having his signature on your pickguard to you personally looks great!

A few years ago he signed a friend's Rick pickguard with "Jim McGuinn '65".

Make sure you give us a concert review when you get back Jim. Make sure you take notice of which RIC he is using. As of late, he has been using his HOF 70's RIC.

Randy: Why did he sign it that way you think? I know why Jim, but why '65?

I saw him in a small theater about a year ago. He wasn't in the lobby signing things, but someone with him did take a load of albums, CD's, and probably pickguards backstage for RM to sign. Great show, needless to say. Go ahead and try not to get goosebumps when he plays the old favorites on the 12.

I know what 'ya mean Jim about the goosebumps. Got 'um.

Never got to see him in the '60's, but did catch his show a couple of years ago. I was fortunate to meet with him, briefly, after the show. He showed off his latest guitar, the Martin 7 string and gave me a technical run through of his newest GPS system. It was just Roger, myself and one other guy, who looked real familiar. There were no introductions and it wasn't until later I realized who the other guy was...Robert Carradine.
