I was playing around with my Yamaha bass today, just sanding down areas and doing some stuff to the paint job since I plan to get a Ric ASAP. I was wondering if anyone has greatly changed there rick body wise, paint wise, or anything that greatly changes it.

If you have pictures, please put them up! I would love to see some custom painted ricks!

I have never seen a crazy rick before, the most changed rick I have seen is Chris Squires sanding down job on his, which is now a model.

I had Dale Fortune convert my '99 4003 into a '68 replica. I call it my 4003v68.

Check out this thread:

(As of now, the pickup cover is off and the knobs have been changed to the current chrome-top type)

That looks cool. The horseshoes look like polished aluminum?

John, that really is one sweet bass. I'm not a Jetglo fan but that bass looks great.

As far as MODS go, I'm usually not one to change factory originals, ESPECIALLY a Ltd. Edition......but I'm planning on installing a HS & a toaster onto my 4003 DCM when she arrives.

I plan on playing her and it is a fully reversible Mod, I will not change the bridge surround however.

Here are a few; a Turquoise acoustic Rick, an Aqua 325, a Mink 4001, a LH 4001 in burgundy, and a two-fer shot showing a blue 481 and an amber Fireglo 4001.

Also a Union Jack 340/12 that's in progress currently.

Check back threads, especially in my Topic section, "Reflections of a Curmudgeon", and you'll find a lot more!

Paul,

Beautiful work, IMHO I don't even consider those MODS, I consider those RESTORATIONS. I'm an old Body & Fender guy, so my opinion is biased I guess! Image

For some reason when I think MOD, I think of those horrible things we all see on Ebay that ARE or SHOULD be in the Hall of Shame.

Yeah, Tony. I thank JB for setting the tone on this thread (which could, of course, drift!). My first visual impression, too, was of a Rick modified in dubious taste. Fortunately, these are in the tiny minority.

It does seem that preservation, restoration, and enjoyment are the order of the day, at least on this Forum.

Mark, they're indeed polished aluminum, made by Dale. They're not bendable like real horseshoes, and I couldn't get the bridge pickup low enough for my liking, so off they came (until I can get something lower output at the bridge).

What were you scared of, P-dubya? One of these?

Yeah! That's gotta be a real tone monster! Love the woodgrain scratchplate. And brass for the pickguard... Awesome! Knobs you can really latch onto!

Too early for April 1st??
