Be aware, potential bidders - this one has new RIC HB's, not the 4002's pickups. I believe it is also a new RIC tailpiece and a new repro pickguard.
When Ken got it, it was in pretty poor shape - weird tortoise pickguard, Duncan pickups, Badass bridge.

She's a looker, but I wonder how the sound differs from 4002 pups.
And JH is sitting on more 4002 parts.... We can hope.

My mistake - it had a Stars bridge. No extra holes. The new pickguard was made by Pickguardian and is a 3-ply rather than 5.
John, i'm not holding my breath about the pallet. Sure would be a cool limited run, though!

A lot of money already, considering the parts that are missing. For the money, the ad should highlight the fact that these parts have been replaced. You'd spend years to find correct replacements, if you could find them, and probably thousands for the parts you need. If a retro horseshoe sells for hundreds, I'd hate to guess what the 4002 pickups would fetch....if you ever find them.

I don't remember ever seeing 4002 pups for sale.
No one knows the specs & RIC isn't giving them away.
I'd put finding replacements outside the realm of realistic expectations.
Still worth quite a pile, though.
Ken usually has pretty good reasons for selling stuff. He does seem to buy it, try it, sell it for a small profit, & try something else quite often.
It's a good way to get a feel for a lot of different models, I suppose.

Good luck on finding 4002 pickups. I've been looking for 4002 pickups since early '96 and I've not seen any for sale. I emailed John Hall in '97 and received a response that they didn't have any complete pickups for sale and probably did not have any of the special pickup bobbins left. Obviously, this is old information, but I don't think the situation has changed.
I sought out 4002 pickups as spares for my bass and also wanted to try one out in the bridge position on one of my 4003s. Thankfully, and despite the past atrocities committed to the fretboard on my 4002, at least the electronics and other hardware are complete and unmolested.

you will have more luck finding teeth on a chicken than finding 4002 pickups ...
If I were to restore a 4002 bass then I would use 4004 pickups ...

OMG!!!..I'm at my babees place til Febuary...guess where that is?..Cockeysville Maryland..I didnt bring my 4002 as I dont like to fly with her, but its too bizarre this 4002 is where I'll be living for the next couple of months...hmmm..maybe i should buy a couple lottery tickets

I have seen more 4002's without their original pick ups than with them.
