I know this is a touchy subject for some of the Ampeg lovers, but I just rack mounted my Little Mark II with my Sansamp rbi and love the sounds I'm getting out of this combination. I started off using this through my Eden 2x12 combo that I adapted for external amp use and decided to down size and use it with an Epifani UL112 that weighs 29lbs. The rack setup weighs 17lbs and the Eden nemesis combo weighs 60 something lbs but has wheels. I know a solid state amp will never equal an SVT but when this thing is cranked and the sansamp is tweaked just right it comes pretty close. Both of these cabs handle a B string very well too. Anyway here's some pics-

hey Mark are those 5'ers Rath 4-2-5s? I don't think I've ever saw any pics where you could see the headstock...it looks a bit odd to have a tuner peg sticking out of the cresting wave.

Love the two jetglos...what year are they '72 ?

Scott, I decided to try the epifani after some of the guys on Talkbass raved about them, they're a great combination of light weight and performance, a really nice uncolored sound that goes very low.
Matt, there's the Rath method and there's the Gilbert method, or you could fill and redrill the headstock. I used to think it looked odd too and then I saw an eight string headstock and thought it didn't look any odder than that.
The two vintage ricks are both early 73's, the one on the left is dark burgundy.

Well Mark, your setup could start to surpass even Ampeg now that they're all going to be made in China. Probably a useful discovery on your part, especially for people who don't own an Ampeg yet. I'm just glad I got my SVT3Pro made in the USA.

Nice rack you got there, Mark!Small lightweight amps are the way to go; the tone from my WW is just fine!

I used to have an SVT in the late 70's and know how loud and powerful they get, it totally amazes me how loud that little 6 1/2lb LM II gets in 300 watt mode with an 8ohm speaker cab. When it's hooked up to Eden it puts out 500 watts. If I was to get another UL112 I could run both amps and have a combined 800 watts with 4 12's, I think that would be enough for most people.

My latest compact rig.

GK 700RB II. 480 watts into 4 Ohms, running through a Carvin 210. The Carvin 210 never really did it for me with the Ampeg B2 or my old Carvin RL1000, but sounds really huge and packs serious punch with the GK.

Cheers for markbass, received my sa 450 about a week ago...sounds amazing...even with my old, horn-less yorkville 410...just ordered up a markbass 104hf 4 ohm cab ( I just like 500 watts)

Scott - I've been using a Carvin 2x10 like that for about 10 years. Have never been unhappy with it.

The RL amps from Carvin have not had such good reviews. Some say they're too busy/complicated, I've heard disparaging things about their durability. Fnny, but I have an older Carvin PB 300 head that I loved the sound before it ******* out. Just not worth fixing.

Tomorrow I am going to order a new cab to replace the old Carvin. A Low Down Sound 4x8.

After that it's time for a real amp to replace the Behringer POS I have...

I like the idea of adding a RBI to the MarkBass.

I have the LMK11 and a simple Behringer BDI21 to add a tube flavor and it works great but I am sure the RBI would do a better job !

MarkBass is the way to go when you want big Tone and avoid big weight !

Yea, I stumbled upon the RBI because I'm a big Geddy fan and saw his endorsement of it in some of the mags, as it's part of how he gets his jazz to sound like a rick(close but no cigar). I can get any of my ricks to do the Cygnus X-1 sound or the ESL sound by adjusting the drive and presence and tweaking the mids.

I've been using a Thunderfunk TFB420 head with Epifani UL210 and UL 115 cabinets. The head is super warm without having to lug around a huge tube amp. The Epi cabs are lightweight and do a faithful job of reproducing the head and bass' characteristics.

I don't miss my SVT.
