It might be expensive for the USA, but remember UK prices are generally about twice USA prices.

Actually, that's about right for the States too. With 73 basses selling for close to $3K here the UK market looks more in line these days given the exchange rate.

Please tell me that bass is not hanging by a piece of rope around the tuners!

So, that banged up, ripped to the bare wood in back, at least one non-original part, and you can still command three grand???

And I got mine for $150...so I've been sitting on a goldmine. I guess this really will have to be added to the funeral pyre with the swords and the gold.

No skunk strip? Walnut wings? Straight blade Grovers? Seams like a leftover from 70, 71?

How much is a new 4003 in the USA? Here in the UK it is well over $2k.

I think the street price is in the $1100 US range for a new 4003, Peter, give or take a few dollars.
I was quoted $1600 Cdn by the nearest Canadian dealer.

The serial number (LC 210) indicates March, 1972.
In UK prices, that's a wicked deal (so far...)!

Here in the UK that is a good price. I paid 1300 UKP for my '72 about two years ago and thought is was a total steal. My guess is that it will go for about 2K UKP.

IN-teresting bass here. Old neck design with dark wings, maybe one of the last to see this kind of production. Pickguard is a replacement(as he says) but both p/ups and keys are original IMO. I'd wanna pic of the rout he says that is bigger than what he thinks it should be. Hard to say what it'll bring, a good bit I'd think.

He says the routing in the pickguard is bigger than it should be...

It's certainly looks an earlier bass, with the walnut wings, straight Grovers and very dark fireglo. I haven't seen one that shade for this period. It looks like a 64 shading.

You usually see run of the mill mid 70's gear in London for 1500UKP. This looks a good potential buy for that market. Different too...

It certainly does appear to be earlier than '72. It i has the big headstock and no shedua stripe.
