Just a quick note to thank you guys and especially Sergio for the wonderful bridge pup he wound for me. High output is an understatement!
Sergio is a very cool dude to deal with and has a fantastic product.

I'm not so sure---global warming wasn't an issue before Sergio was born. I think his hot pups may be responsible.

I get mine this week! :-D

Hey, don't mention it haha. Seriously, thanks. I'm glad you like my humble creations, guys.
Lyle, be warned: your pickup is hotter than the one I sent Norris...
Well, looks like I'm on the road to success at long last! Image

Sounds like Sergio is getting all wound up these days Image

But seriously, Sergio, do you have the means and parts to make entire new pickups, or do you always start with a genuine Rick PUP carcass and rewind it to your own custom tastes as to wire gauge, magnet pole piece size and material composition, and number of turns? Or just reuse the Rick magnets?

A nice CNC mill, some stock metal and a plating facility, a winding machine jig, and an OEM supply of very stable rare-earth modern magnet stock, and you could start a nice prototype/small-volume manufacturing shop (like mine).

Let's name it Silva-Surge Pickups, Inc.! Designed by Sergio Silva, for that Hot Silver sound!!

PS - wise man once say, even water eventually wear away granite. November 70 did you say? Image Hmmm...wonder what it is going to take to change his mind...

Sergio, last night I bought on ebay a '73 4000 in a rather nice FG. It has a Fender Telecaster PUP at the moment. I haven't got it or tried it out yet but if it's a keeper I would probably want to put a Ric PUP in it. As it's only got one I think I might be needing some of your super hot magic! I will get back to you when I have got the 4000 if that is OK with you? All the best, Bob

I concur...sergio does make rockin' pickups. And they go great with .0047 caps!

That's a really cool bass, Bob! I love the S's.

I have one of Sergio's pu's to put in my '72 if I can ever get up enough ba!!'s to jump into the control cavity!
The front pu is to die for, but the original bridge pu is a little weaker than I would like.

Nice one Bob...I thought so.

I looked at that a few times along with the 68 there and thought it would go higher.

625UKP is a steal imo...

Now..the 68 on the other hand...

Hi again, everybody. Sorry I went away on you sorta.
Let me start by saying "Bob, congrats on that 4000. It's truly beautiful - and rare". Building a pickup therefor would be a privilege. Depend on me.

Elys, actually only very, very seldom do I re-use Rick bobbins to build new pickups. I prefer to build my pickups from scratch. I don't go for arcane creations, though: I use the same wire gauge, the same approximate bobbin dimensions, and stick to the same specs. As for gauss, I use a variety of bar magnets, but nothing fancy. What is it about my pickups? Just the hotter output and the adjustable polepieces, that's all.
Having said that, I do fear that the pickup I'll be sending Lyle tomorrow is way too hot to handle...Image He better re-install the treble-pass capacitor to tame it - otherwise the original neck pickup will be no match for it...
