"You are bidding on a 2000 Rickenbacker 4001 V63 Bass in a rare Midnight Blue finish. Though Midnight Blue is a standard Ric color option, the 4001 V63 was only offered in Mapleglo. According to the person I emailed at Rickenbacker when I bought the bass a few years ago this bass could be ordered in any of the colors that were offered during the year it was built. He also said most people probably didn't know that. He didn't know how many were made in Midnight Blue, but he doubted there were very many."

Never seen one before!

As far as I am aware V63's were only available from the factory in Maple or Fireglo.

Having said that, the pics in the auction seem genuine, so it's a mystery.

Must find a way to hide purchase from the wife...if it's real, of course Image

I think (and I don't mean to speak for the company) that FG and MG were originally the only colors available, but later on any color could be ordered. Remember that there is at least one Sea Foam Green v63, as well as at least one Turquoise, out there.

I've been strictly playing 4004's for a little while but even I find this quite tempting.

Its real all right.

I now know of MG, FG, JG, TQ, SG, and MID 4001V63's.

I give this auction under an hour!

Thank goodness someone placed an opening bid. I was finding it impossible to concentrate here at work as my finger edged closer and closer to the BIN button Image

What a tasty looking bass!

Yikes. Was there a BIN on the auction? 'Cause someone kick started the bid process. That bass is drop dead gorgeous.

Okay, there!

Somebody just put in at least the minimum bid of $2000.00. So the $2500.00 BIN has disappeared and the auction will now run for 7 days(unless behind-the-scenes shenanigans take place Image).

I was hoping one of you guys would hit the BIN and snag this one for the Forum!

I predict it will ultimately sell for more than the BIN.

Both my '85 Vintage series catalog and my '97 catalog both state MG and FG only. I would have to assume that through the years that a few basses were made with less than desirable wood grain that resulted in a solid finish.

We've seen these in a few different colors, haven't we?
