Neck pickup adjustment question

Just replaced a stock neck pup on my new 40003 AFG with a toaster. The holes on the toaster where the adjustment screws seem a little large and the south one can't adjust. It isn't even tight to turn. Are those rubber washers used to fix this? My pick up came with 6 of them. Little help her? I need to raise the pickup and can only do it on one end. Sory if this post is confusing. HELP!

Which toaster did you get? There are two versions, one with threaded holes for the neck position on basses and the other with slightly larger holes without threads intended for wood screws to go through to mount on top of guitar bodies.

As Jeff said, that would be a guitar toaster. The bass toaster has threaded adjuster holes that are slightly smaller. If you bought it new, exchange it for the right one. If you don't have that option there are still things you can do.

It's the larger holes. This was bought through Mus. Friend last year I believe for about $70. the pickup itself is the same (reissue) in output and appearance for bass or guitar. There is only on toaster issued now? no, yes? Either way please give me instructions on adjustment on the larger hole model.
Thanks.

The guitar toaster and bass toaster differ slightly ... the bass aluminum plate on the bass one is machined to take a different screw ... your toaster can be converted with 2 small nuts and some super glue ... go to a hardware store and get 2 small nuts that fit the screws and superglue them to the base plate ... when it is dry you have a bass toaster pickup ...

Or trade the pickup to somebody who has the right one ...

You can use the guitar toaster, no problem, I got one too from MF when they were $50... wish I had bought three at that price - and they shipped it FREE to Israel!

All you need are two nuts to fit the mounting/height adjustment screws, the nuts go under the pickup's base plate, so the two height adjustment screws go through - in this order - the pickguard, one rubber grommet, the pickup's base plate, and the nut. The rubber grommet is there to prevent you from over-tightening and cracking the pickguard.

I take the rubber grommets off usually to get more bottom if I need it, they are not necessary as long as you don't overtighten the although with screws and nuts you might have a hard time. Some basses need it, some don't depends on how close that pickup is to the strings. There are a lot of variables, like how thick the fingerboard is, how high the action is, how straight the neck is etc.
Is the 40003 a new model? Longer neck maybe?
