I remember seeing this bass on e-bay a while ago with the exact same item description.

Cool! There was a kind of blueprint drawing of the body shape hanging on the wall at Jim Mouradian's shop when I used to take stuff in there for setups.

sorry to say this, but that is one ugly piece.

They sound amazing . . . why on earth you would replace the original pics with EMG jazzes is BEYOND ME.

FWIW, that is most likely NOT the 3rd one made, It looks to be one of the "Production" Guitars. The original pickups in that Black-Sparkle Bass should have been Bartolini M3's. That's what mine had. The one that was done for CS I'm told by JM had Seymour Duncan Jazz Bass pickups in it and the covers he made by hand from melted down black plastic hair combs, if I recall correctly!

But if they were used, it'd be like the Ibanez (IIRC) DNA series, containing DNA of someone!

I, in fact purchased that Mouradian! I've been looking for one for many years, and decided if I wanted one, I better jump on this one and had to cough up the money. I’m friendly with Jim Mouradian (and son Jon) and they’re my go to guys for repairs, etc. I took it to their shop after receiving it and Jim was excited and touched that I had purchased it. He said they were worried that it might end up going to a buyer overseas or something. It is indeed #3, (Squire has #1, Mouradian has #2) and was used in the original brochure photos. It’s special paint is gloss black on the overall body and then subtle metallic/pearl black around the outside contours. This was done to enhance the sexy curves for the photos/brochure. Jim says this bass was built in ’84 or ’85 and that he changed the pickups out himself (as he did on his own bass) somewhere along the way. These are active EMG’s and he says they are much superior to the original Bardens and give the bass the “right” and intended tone (apparently the production Bardens were not quite the same as the “prototypes” that he approved). He has the originals and I could elect to replace them, but I’ll try these out for a while before doing so.

I know this is a love it or hate it design, but for me, it’s so unique (love it) and I admit that the bass is “meaningful” to me ‘cause of the Squire connection and the clanky tone. If you know of anyone else that owns one please pass it along that I’d like to contact them!
