I got a Silva machine...

I hope Sergio will forgive me the terrible play on words in the title.

I got in from work a couple of hours ago to find a box of goodies from Sergio. First off was a replacement wavy Grover for one of mine with a dodgy back. With a bit of mix and matching a fully functioning Grover is now installed. Also in the box was a better pot that a replaced one in my bass.

Now to the main event…. One of Sergios super hot, I had to wear asbestos gloves, PUPs. This was to replace a Fender style one in my recently bought ’73 4000 FG.

It didn’t take long to whip the old one out and the new one in. It is an elegant looking PUP, similar to a Rickenbacker but with flat tops to the poles instead of the domed RIC ones. Next I plugged it into my home practice amp, an old 20 watt Marshall that has seen many better days. Well I was totally blown away!

The bass now had real growl, punch, harmonic overtones and a RICness that was to die for. The only other bass I had around was my ’79 4001 S. I plugged that in to compare. The S was not as punchy and did not growl as much, but had a more woody, restrained tone. This put a very big smile on my face. The last thing I wanted was for the 4000 to sound just like the S. There would be no point in having two basses that sounded the same.

I am really looking forward to trying the 4000 through my full rig, I just know that I will love the tone and life from Sergios PUP.

A VERY BIG THANK YOU SERGIO. I now have my 4000 sounding like a Rickenbacker again, and then some.

Now that you are so successful at last, you no longer need Jacklyn, yes? Image

Regardless of anything else, you must admit that I am persistent Image Image Image

Great story. Does having in ones possession a Silva machine make you Silva-ized?
