Can anyone tell me how the Hartke cabs are for sound and quality? Especially the 4 X 10s. Thanks.

I like their 6x10 cabs ...

I had a 4x10 with aluminum cones. It was the best cab I ever owned, until I got my Ampeg 4x10, and now the 8x10, which I am not going to keep, too much power (I mean air movement)!

I have a 2 x 10 Transporter cab. It sounded great until it blew up.

Until it BLUE up!

I did blue up, to Ashdown cabinets that is. (blue speakers)

I have a little Hartke Kickback 10 with and aluminum speaker. It has a real nice tone. Bright, punchy and warm.

depends on the tone you are looking for....they are bright but have a tendency to get reallllllll fuzzy when the cones get hot....read that as leave the amp on powering the speakers for a while and see if your tone remains the same...

For larger gigs I play thru a Gallien-
Krueger 800RB, Hartke Transporter 410, and 215XL, boamped. The thing sounds great and will really fill a room. Plus being biamped, you can really shape your tone however you want it.

have a transporter 2x10 (the cab-not the lousy movie).

changed the POS aluminium speakers to D110's.

should have been good except now the cabinet buzzes.

In the 80's I used a limited edition reissue SVT head with two Hartke 4X10 XL cabs. Sounded incredible.

In the 90's I played with a bassist who had a full Hartke rig. Amps ands cabs. One cab was a 4X10 XL. The other cab was a Transporter 4X10. The Transporter BLEW UP!!

I like new modern Ampeg today.

I bought a whole Hartke rig a few years ago.
HA3500 350w amp
Transporter 2x10 cab
Transporter 1x15 cab

The 1x15 cab died on me twice while still under warranty and I took it back and got a refund. The 2x10 did all the work when I had the Hartke 1x15 cab. That cab is brilliant.

I then replaced that with a 4x10 Ashdown cab which is tremendous, but weighs as much as a small house.. The mixed rig sounds pretty damn good.

I also regularly use a pair of Trace Elliot 715 combos that I've had since 1993/4 - bought 6 months apart and they have consecutive serial #'s. I meant to sell them after I bought the new Hartke rig, but didn't have the guts to got through with it!!!

I think it is good to keep in mind....the Transporter series is low wattage . Pushing those into high volume is not what they were made for . I have owned 2-210s and a 115 for many years with no problems . The XL series is for higher volumes .

As regards volume, I have never needed to have the volume level above 2 on the whole Hartke rig and the graphic is always set in a gentle arc without reaching either deepest bass or stinging treble. I tend to let the PA do the main work, once I can hear 'my sound', as we mainly play pubs and are quieter on stage than some bands.

The shop were totally baffled by what happened.
