A shoeless CS has just showed up on eBay. Kind of sad IMHO, but not hopeless. It is an easy fix, but why take them off in the first place?

We had discussed it in another thread too, Kris. It's actually a higain bridge pickup, the original is not included (though the shoes are, but they won't fit).

Yes, it kind of takes care of the collectable value of this one. I know that the original pickup will be almost impossible to find. Too much money for the desecrated bass then.

Because they're heavy, they're annoying, and they don't contribute to the guitar's sound.

Those things are like...well...if you had a nice big shiny chrome cover blocking you from your turn signal wand on your car.

But yes, the guy that did this should have returned the bass to its original state before he sold it.

No thumping from me, David. I like the way they look, and I understand that many players like to use them as a handrest. To each his own. To me they're a nuisance, to others they're the coolest thing since sliced bread!

I can take 'em or leave 'em. They are vestigial and merely aesthetic at this point. I left mine on (V63) because I like the look and have gotten used to working around them from playing my '63 for the last 4 years.

Hey David...this might seem kinda silly, but...it sounds like you're one of the players that really like/need/use the shoes as a handrest. Maybe if the weight of the shoes is too much, you could put a plastic pickup cover from a 4003 on. I'm pretty sure it would fit.

Another idea: At 5'8" and 150 lbs I'm pretty small as bass players go. Sometimes the weight of my Ricks causes soreness in my upper back/neck. But I've been working out a bit lately and don't seem to have much pain any more. Its worth a shot!

I loved the look of the shoes and they make a great handrest for my style, too! Unfortunatley, functionaltiy won out and I had to remove my "Dale-shoes" from my v68 - I couldn't lower the pickup enough with them on.

So is nobody going to bid on it because it is missing the original pickups? I can't believe it's only up to $510. To own a CS for only $600 is insane. What type of cost would it be to put original or close to original pickups in?
