Wasn't 67 and 68 the time that those green burst guitars were made?
Maybe this was another experiment?

If it's a '68, I can't see where it could possibly be the original finish.

I'm fairly confident that Purpleglo guitar featured at the top of this thread was listed, and sold, on eBay last year or the year before.
Whilst the colour is pretty cool, the eBay listing mentioned that it had been refinished.

I remember in 1968 our Bass player and I were looking at Rick Bass guitars in Santa Ana Music store at La Veta and Main Street and they had 2 Ricks this exact same Blue color, a 4001 and a 3 pickup 360..We loved that solid blue color. Unfortunately he couldn't afford the price.

That could have been Azureglo, Dale. This doesn't look like it to me, though. (Edit: Also just noticed it's translucent, obviously not Azureglo then)

Doesn't Ed Roman offer a refin in Greenburst? I think I may have found my next Ric. I'm in love with that finish. I had heard about Greenburst Rics but had never seen one. Did Rickenbacker have a name for the color?
Did anybody ever see one of those Kustom guitars from the 60's that was a "Watermelon Burst"? They were really something too.

I haven't seen Ed's Greenglo in person, Dusty but from the pics I've seen it might be better called 'Kermitglo' or 'Rawappleglo'.
Don't know about you but I much prefer a more 'emerald' or 'Irish' green.

After digging a little further, the purpleglo guitar is almost certainly the one which sold on eBay in Oct '05 for a BIN price of $2470. Serial number on that guitar was GA409 ('67 not '68) and it was missing the Ac'cent Vibrato arm also.

If the GA409 365 was a real Azureglo, the dark wood in the peghead wouldn't be visible; Azureglo is a solid color of course....
Now the Shaded Green Rickenbackers in the other pic could very well be legit, but I'm thinking these guitars appeared later, like 1969-70. If they are re-creations of the finish, then whoever did it did an excellent job.

Howard- I too much prefer a darker shade of green. Emerald or Irish would be a very good way to describe it.
Does anybody know how hard is it to paint a burst yourself? I have some experience with a airbrush, but I don't know if I could make something that beautiful.

The guys at Rock-n-roll Vintage in my estimation are honest, they are just not Rick experts. Like most dealers, they know the big 3 and have a passing understanding of Ricks. If you have concerns or questions, drop them a line. They have always been receptive to me when I have offered info or corrections to their listings.
