anyone remember them???
they were big Rick users in the 80s....The guitar player, Marty Wilson-Piper was a Rick 12 nutt....
He had several, I remember seeing them in 88 and he had a Rose-Morris 360-12 with the f-hole and dot neck....the other guitar player had a Fender Jag and the bass player/singer had one of those 60s Fender 335 style bass...they also had Vox AC-30s....i cant listen to them anymore, they sound too dated and the lyrics are goofy...but I liked them when i was younger, i saw them 3 or 4 times....they were a really good live band....
last I heard they couldnt get a record contract and Marty sold off his Rick collection....thats sad...

They're still around, putting out stuff on an independent label. Check out http://church.tristesse.com . I also saw them 3 or 4 times. The first time, Marty was playing a 366. I had never seen one before (or even knew they existed), and thought the comb was some sort of pickup. Older and wiser now. Apparently the 366 was one of the Ricks he sold off.

Man, I STILL love The Church! They're consistently releasing stuff, have a new album coming out in April. In fact I just saw Marty do a solo show in Boston last year, just him and an acoustic 12-String. It was a great show, lots of fun, he's an excellent musician and showman.

I saw them a couple times in the last 2 or 3 years, and Marty still has some nice Rics, 6 and 12 strings. Plays the hell out of them. The style that he and Peter Koppes have together is great, not just dualing bozos like so many bands, they approach it sort of like counterpoint.

I'm not sure what bass you saw Steve Kilbey play, fatrat, but on tour a couple years ago he played one of those rare 60s Fender Bass IV 6-string basses. Real nice.

Anyway, I was hoping someone would mention these guys. Aside from YES, they are probably my favourite band. Check out their 1999 "Hologram of Baal" album.

Did you get the version of "Baal" that included the bonus disk? It's essentially a 40 or 50 minute jam that I found more interesting than the album itself.

Yeah, that was a good bonus disc to have. A good look into how they work things out, a rough form type of thing. I quite liked it.

Marty's most recent solo album "Hanging Out In Heaven" is an excellent album, alot of good guitar playing on it.
