Oh wait, it's mine! What an awesome bass! Anyone want to buy a 2004 4003 FG 4-2-5? {:^)

It has all the tones I want and the cool part is, I just have to flip a switch. switch down, play by bridge, massive grind, snarl, etc.

Switch up, and playing close to neck, nice round tones for ballads.

Very versatile! What more does a bassist really need?

And this is with Chromes. I can't imagine the snarl with rounds!!

Play it for a while before you pull a Crisman/Rath/Gilbert on it! Image You might find that it's versatile enough stock. I know I do.

I might very well go to flats on it someday, but as I said in the other thread, I keep my strings on so long they are basically flats.

Whoa there Ed....you must have fallen on your head recently! Image

I've only ever changed strings on my 4004's......no other non-cosmetic mods needed.

LOL! On both lies.

I fell on my a$$ (of course, that might be where my brains are abusing that ladder like I was). You've at least painted the neck on you JG 4004. And threatened the integrity of several nice ones for the "ghost" project!!

Bahhh! Image

The neck is only cosmetic (and quite the improvement if I may say so myself) and I have been unable to act on my threats so they don't count.Image

Ohhh, didn't see the "non-cosmetic" part.

Wait a minute, Crisman doesn't do the five string conversion thang! But seriously, if it weren't for Brian and Jeff I might not have discovered the ultimate bass(IMO) a 4004 w/five strings. As soon as the epiphany was realized all my 4003's went up for sale to pursue more 4004's, like I was on crack or something.

Charley, I'm not kidding, with DR rounds and a nice strong amp (like my Markbass + sansamp), I'm getting tones similar to Geddy on Exit Stage Left. That means bark, bite, punch, growl, the clank is not as much as a single coil would do, but it sounds mean as hell. The sound is so thick you could walk on it.

Don't forget, this was Brian's fault:

Well, I think my amp now qualifies. An SVT Classic through a 4x10! The 8x10 is a bit much for church!

Oh, I should mention, I need to raise the action a skosh at the bridge end. When I really dug in, I got some fret slap. I have tried to play softer and turn up the volume, but it doesn't work for me. I work best when I can go from very quiet to maximum attack just by how hard I'm "digging". I suppose I could learn to do this with a bit more subtlety, but alas.....

I was smitten with the 4004 when I bought my Dakota in 2001 and saw an old Ci on the poster that came with the guitar. My cousin thought I was silly to be searching for a guitar I'd never seen, but the 4004 has not disappointed me.

So it's John Hall's fault! Image
