My Rickenbacker TR50 had built in Fuzz/distortion as well as two channels for Rick o Sound.

I'm with Jeff - though I use a Behringer V-amp rather than a Pod, the principle is the same: you can get exactly the tones you want and just dial them up as needed. The main advantage is you can go direct onstage or in the studio and know exactly what it will sound like.

Or go for a Sansamp Bassdriver, nice grunt - good tone. Go ask Geddy about it.....

Well with all due respect to Mr. Rath, who is quite the heavyweight in all matters pertaining to the bass guitar, I would have to disadvise the use of Line 6 products. To me they sound pretty fake, and they are not durable. Go with Boss if you're looking for digital effects.

my personal favorites, distortion-wise:
Z. Vex Woolly Mammoth for fuzz
Fulltone Bass Drive for overdrive
not the cheapest pedals around, but I think they're worth it...

I get a nice, fuzzy sound with my Carvin RL1000, with the preamp turned to tube, and a few EQ adjustments. Geddy is apparantly trying to recreate his Ric sound with a Sansamp and a J bass, he should just play his Ric.Of course, when was the last time Rush did something new that anyone cared about anyway.

I haven't cared since the Rick went away.

Most Rush fans haven't. Then, I think they haven't been relevant since "Moving pictures", and my all time fav is "Caress of steel".

I can verify that an Ampeg B2R with 4x10s(1 or 2) and Rick can deliver some NASTY tones, cause that used to be my rig. I now use an Ampeg SVT 3PRO with 4x10s and a Rick and it rocks too. I have some pedals on a pedal board that I use, never really messed with the Pod or any multieffects bass box...

Ya I know I need to lose 10 or 15 pounds ... then I won't be a heavy weight ...
Line 6 is not for everyone ... for some it is too complex and has too many options ... I had a nice boss bass processor but I prefer the bass pod ... the sans amp is a nice piece of technology as well ...
