Hmmm ... I do have a spare hygrometer (not calibrated) at work ... maybe it'd be an interesting experiment to see whether that conjecture is true.

Seriously, this (hanging guitars) has gotten discussed several times here (and elsewhere).

And, in fact, John Hall has specifically recommended Hercules brand guitar hangers:
