I could't resist posting this shot of my babies. I'm totally into the 'S' but the '72 stays as well.

Those are some mighty fine looking basses you got there Bob. Are those the original tuners on the mapleglo? Congrats on a fine collection.

Thanks Bob, yes they are wavy Grovers exactly the same as on the 1973 4000, it's just that they are all facing forward, makes them look a bit like cauliflower ears...!

Nice! How are you getting along with the 4000 Bob?

Shaun, thanks. It is just FANTASTIC. I am using it for a gig tomorrow with my power rock trio, Mantiss. It will be the only bass that I will play all night. I will bring a Fender J just in case it breaks down. It sounds better than the other two in the context of Mantiss.

With my jazz/fusion band, Slipper, I think the 'S' has the edge, it's a bit more woody sounding.

Sweet collection, Bob. The Burgundy S is too cool. Then again, I'm a huge fan of '72s.

Remember me in your will please.

Nice collection, Bob. Are you going to eventually post a pic of you with your NS? Maybe a nice Fireglo finish on it would be appropriate, what do you think? Image

I know one is a 4000 . Are the others 4001s ? What is the difference between a 4001S and a 4003S ?

Barry, just off to a gig so I must be quick... From left to right. 1973 4000 FG, 1972 4001 MG, 1979 4001S Burgundyglo. Maybe others could fill you in on the differences. must dash, rock & roll calls...

the difference between a 4003s and a 4001s is "2"

Now we have become mathemetical; An even more interesting question is what's in between a 4001s and a 4003s?
