Well tomorrow is the big day, January 18, 2001 when the unveiling of the "C" Series takes place at NAMM. For those of you who are fortunate enough to be there and have a camera the Rickenbacker Registration Page and Forum would dearly love to post your photos and comments with respect to the Series. In addition, your comments with regard to the NAMM experience would also be much appreciated. Please give those who are not there the opportunity to get as close to this experience as possible. We want all the late breaking news.

I was just wondering why the 4001C64S does not have the under string pickup? Wasn't that a modification that was made at the same time the horns were trimmed down?

And where is the 4001c64???? Anybody seen that one yet?

Not yet. I am also not sure how North Coast got the photos so early when no other Rickenbacker sites seem to have them posted as yet.

I was just over on Voxtalks and pics are coming in over there -- Of the 325c58, 360c64, and the 4001c64S (the MacCartney model). But nothing yet on the 4001c64...

I just whined about the lack of pics on alt.guitar.rickenbacker, but it looks like the c64 is going to look a whole lot like the v63, if the picture of the c64S is any guide. That's a beautiful bass, although I'm not fond of the backwards headstock . That's why I want to see the c64.

OTOH, if the differences are minor, I might still just go get that v63 that our local shop can't sell. Then save up some more and get a c64 and..... Oh boy, I can see a collection I can't afford starting up already.....

I don't think the c64 is going to look like the v63, because I believe Nick Thiel said something to that effect on this Forum a week ago. I think it has gotta be a reissue of the U.S. model 4001 circa 1964 (NOT a 4001S model, which was for export to England in the '60s). Why would Rickenbacker discontinue the v63 and then reissue a new bass called the c64 when the only difference between the two was a couple of pickups? I THINK the 4001c64 will have checker binding and edge to edge inlays like so many of the reissue guitars have had, but I'm still not sure so I wanted to see a picture. Basses with these features are in demand in the vintage guitar market and command a premium price when they are in good to excellent condition. Since I 've always wanted a bass like that, I'm hoping Mr. Hall has answered my prayers and reissued a model like it.

squirebass: According to the "Draft" page of the 4001c64, the specs list no binding and dot inlays on the neck. It is a draft of course, but at this juncture it seems the 4001c64 won't have those neat features you (and I) are hoping for.

Reflecting on the Macca model today, all day, and I have to say that the pics I have seen, so far, make me laugh myself silly.

It does look a bit awkward, but I believe it does because we are so used to seeing it as a left handed model. I also think that this particular model looks different because it still has thehorseshoe pickup instead of the understring pick up that McCartney's has. Whatever the case, ring it up!

It does look awkward, but I think that is because we are so used to seeing it as a lefthanded model. It's starting to grow on me. It looks different with the horseshoe pick up as well. Paul's modified bass has the understring pickup. Regardless...ring it up. I'll be paying with cash!

I dunno.... I kinda like the missing binding and dot inlays, although I think it looks better in JG. For MG, I like the binding and shark's teeth. In fact, that's why I refinished my old 4001 years ago and put a clear finish on it.

BTW, taking that finish off and all the sanding did change the sound. It had more of a crunchy sound (ala Squire on Fragile) after that.

Still, I'm axious to actually see pics of the c64....
