New strings on my 325C58...loving it

I have tried a couple of different approaches to strings on my C58, the first being a set of flat-wound Pyramid .013s....used them for quite a while, thought the guitar felt good enough. Well...

I thought I'd step down to .012s(Chromes), and just do a general setup once again to the guitar...tweak the neck, intonate, adjust the saddles etc...somewhat better, but I still didn't really think I was done with it. The bottom strings weren't riding in the nut properly and I didn't want to widen the slots..

So, I bought a set of .011s (again Chromes), and used #3,5 and 6 out of that set....

MAN it plays and intonates better than it EVER has...it was one of my favorite guitars before this but now it is REALLY great (to me, anyway)...the string guages seem just right for this guitar, even though I know what has been said over and over about what strings are good on a 325....For the moment, I am digging the Chromes to no end....even if it is a mix of two packs.

Just wanted to pass this along for other C58 and 320/325 owners....

Thank for sharing, John. It's about time to restring my 1996, and I've been searching the forum for tips just like this one.

Glad you found something that works for you. I don't think I'll try it, because I play with .11's on regular scale guitars--I think even .13's feel a bit a slinky on my C58, but I won't be going any heavier. I have yet to try Pyramids--I've been happy with Thomastik at half the price--I guess I'll need to try a set one of these days just for the hell of it, don't they have a little more tention than other flats?

They have quite a bit more tension than other flats. I'm not crazy about them, especially for the price they want for them.
